Salsa & Guac Duo

Looking for something fresh, quick, and delicious to whip up for a snack or to bring to a socially distant barbecue? These two dip recipes are the answer!

I have many tried and true, crowd-pleasing recipes that I know I can rely on, but this guac might be number one. I’ve had friends ask me for the recipe countless times, so I thought I’d share it here with you!

It’s super easy to make these two recipes at the same time because they use nearly all the same ingredients! Just watch out if you’re not a cilantro-lover…these recipes are packed full of it!

Chunky Guacamole

  • Servings: 1.5 cups

Serve with chips, in a burrito, or on toast!

Ingredients

  • 2 avocados
  • 1 small roma or vine tomato
  • 1/2 small red onion
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • Juice of 1/2 to 1 lime*
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 tsp salt

*I love lime juice, so I usually add half a lime for each avocado – for those who like less lime, try using half a lime for every two avocados!

Directions

  1. Finely dice the tomato, onion, garlic, and cilantro and combine in a bowl. Squeeze the lime and pour the juice into the bowl
  2. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit and score the green flesh into small cubes (see the photo below)! This will give the guac its “chunkiness”*
  3. Scoop the avocado into the bowl with a spoon and mix it with the other ingredients thoroughly

*If you don’t like chunky guac, add the avocado to the bowl first and mash it before adding the other ingredients!

Scored Avocado

Fresh Pico de Gallo

  • Servings: 1 cup

The perfect no-hassle snack

Ingredients

  • 3 roma or vine tomatoes
  • 1/2 small red onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 jalapeño (optional)
  • Juice of 1 lime

Directions

  1. Finely dice the tomato, onion, garlic, and cilantro (and jalapeño if adding) and combine in a bowl with the salt
  2. Squeeze the lime and pour the juice into the bowl – mix with the other ingredients

I hope you get a chance to enjoy one or both of these yummy dips, whether it be at a barbecue with friends or sitting on the couch watching reruns of Friends (I don’t know about you, but option 2 is a much more likely alternative for me these days…Covid, go away).
